Mention Tarmac Northern.

Questions coming in this way should cheese off the head office!

The message is already sent.

I'm not holding out much hope of a reply. Even less hope of hearing a convincing argument as to why this is the only place that suitable gravel can be found. If this is the case, it strengthens the argument for not removing it, as if its removed, then presumably there's none left anywhere. Doesn't sound too likely.

It's difficult to moderate the language for an inveterate profanitist such as myself. It would be nice to cheese them off, but will it do any good? (I played safe and stayed polite)

The gist of the reply from tarmac northern was

"My company recognises the importance of preserving the Henges and it is not our intention to apply for planning consent to extract sand and gravel from within the actual Henges but only to operate within the land a reasonable distance from the monuments. "

Sophistry.

What constitues a reasonable distance?

"I can assure you that full and open consultation will continue for any
future plans for our operations." This implies the possiblity of plans, contrary to what The County Archaeologist claims.
