'many pounds'

Oh yeah - forty of them to be precise! It's a great companion to Burl's big book of stone circles though. I think the word 'comprehensive' would be a pretty accurate description. The 50+ page list at the back of the book is fantastic...

There's a copy of the book in Ellesmere Port library - also the first eight pages can be downloaded, as a preview, from Amazon.

The closest I have to it is this one - http://www.themodernantiquarian.com/image.php?image_id=10896 - lost in the peat, about a quarter mile from Cumbria !

I've got the address of the C. County Archaeologist nearby. There should be a ring cairn somewhere on the low side of the row. Professor Burl describes these things as 'the most neglected monuments in Europe'. He's not wrong !
