Do they need a name? I don't think so. I could show you many a rocky outcrop that has a definite bearing on a site, but which have no names.

If they seem important to us 'modern' folk, then I'm sure they must have seemed important to the Builders.

If you think it's significant then it's worth a mention. that way someone else can look out for it. They may come back and say 'Bollox!', they may come back and 'Wow!'. Whichever it is, it doesn't matter. What matters is that it's been thought about.

Completely agree, I just think the fact a place has a name adds to the potential significance.

I sometimes perform line of sight analysis at a location to understand which landmarks were likely to be used as way points.

On the other side of it, if we went around including all the nice looking rocks around this site could get pretty confusing.
