Hi 'notjamesbond'. You must be an Orkney or Shetland resident. Very nice piccies. It's a while since I've been up in that neck of the woods, but your postings are giving me a yen to head up north gaian.

Can I ask, is there any prehistoric connection with Muckle Flugga? I'm curious, 'cos although it looks like a beautiful place, I'm not sure whether it's strictly MA material. Others may disagree with me though (I'm a notorious fascist when it comes to these things).

I regard named natural outcrops as of potential archaeological relevence, so long as the names old of course, and not just a place. For example, Jenny Twig and her daughter Tib up in my neck of the woods. My reasoning is that they were possibly on an ancient route.

As to wether they are MA, not sure I'm qualified, but I'd say Jenny and here daughter became significant prior to the Romans. I'm thinking the name Jenny is a variant on Ginny, as in Ginny Green Teeth.

Think that's how you spell it.

Hi Kammer

Sometimes I feel I should be a resident lol! No, I'm from Yorkshire myself but I like to spend a lot of time up in the Highlands and Islands. I defy anyone not to be impressed by the archealogy and the breathtaking beauty to be found there.

I think I may have gotten a little carried away with my postings lol! I thought I'd share Muckle Flugga with the site as I noted there was a section for 'Rocky Outcrops' and what better rocky outcrop to see than the one at the very northernmost point of Britain.

I've looked up if theres anything archaeological thats ever been found there and alas there isn't :-(

What I do know is that the lighthouse on the rock was built by the family of Robert Louis Stevenson, and the map in the book 'Treasure Island' is supposed to be based on the island of Unst in Shetland. Nothing to do with the prehistoric admittedly but I thought it was a nice qwirky fact :-)

If you don't think it's appropriate for the site though, thats fair enough, let me know and I'll erase it.
