now you're talking! this is my pet theory, that they thought of themselves certainly as similar. there are so many parallels between the Picts and the Vikings that I believe they must have had common ancestry. I know we all have common ancestry if you go back far enough, but I mean relatively recent

Could be. The Picts may well have come over from Scandinavia. Certainly some similarities to be seen in their stone carvings and those in Denmark.
