White Moor Stone Circle

I survived!!!

Bloody hell. White Moor was a bit of a struggle to get to! Anyone else been to this circle? Did you follow the path on the OS map that skirts (ha!) Raybarrow Pool? Did you have any trouble? Is there an easier approach?

Hello Doktor and well done. Hope we had plenty of water with you.

I managed to get there about 2 years ago, I can't remember exactly where we set off from without a map in front of me to jog my memory but I can confirm that the bog is a particularly nasty one and we had to detour up on to higher ground to reach it. From memory this took a good couple of hours. I've got some photos somewhere that I took. I remember that one of the stones appeared to take on a "quartzy glow" in my piccie which wasn't evident when inside the the circle - probably a duff roll of film.

Like you we appreciated the isolation of the place but were bemused to see a mountain biker chugging over the hills and across the site.

Presumably you spotted the big standing stone nearby?

Dartmoor can be a bit scary when the weather turns - even for the experienced walker. I posted up a warning about Conies Moor stone row on Friday after trying to get their two weekends ago. Langstone Circle is protected by a fearsome bog too!

Well, we're gonna have to go now, aren't we? You didn't take any blummen pictures! :(

Glad you enjoyed it though - I'd not heard of it before, so thanks for bringing it to my attention! Might give it a go meself one day...

Ooh! That's a nice one! I'm sitting here now wondering if I can justify the time neede to get there next week ... If I get everything done and have a spare day I'll have a bloody good go :-)

I was up here on Thursday last and it was a piece of piss to get to :-) I went north from Scorhill and it's very, very simple - and dry :-)

I noticed on the 1:25K that the outlier is actually called 'The White Moor Stone'. Does it deserve to be a sub-site or should it remain part of the circle?

P.S. I didn't wait until the weather was good and got soaked. Luckily I had enough breaks to get my camera out at each site I went to on this walk. White Moor is a terrific site and deserves a visit if you're in the area.
