Its interesting because there's a bronze age barrow in a churchyard, but as its near the River Og, probably a good settlement site. There's the Ridgeway to the north, and the roman London road in the opposite direction.. there's also other tumuli on the downs towards the Ridgeway
name definition; Oceburnan 10th C, Ocheburne 1086, can't remember if the saxon insertion burial was late though.
saxons probably built the first church and were't too worried about old barrows..

A friend of mine spoke to an old woman from Ogbourne an she said there were qyite a few stones in the area before the war....now gone.
