Ogbourne St Andrew Barrow

Hamish, that's very interesting what you discovered at Ogbourne St Andrew. It alls seems very tantalising.

As a result of looking at your posts I was looking on the map and there's another barrow apparently directly opposite on the other side of the Og valley too. Dunno if that's relevant. It just seems in a Good Spot compared to the one at the church (looking on the map at least).

Looks nice and shady on these hot days too.

Its interesting because there's a bronze age barrow in a churchyard, but as its near the River Og, probably a good settlement site. There's the Ridgeway to the north, and the roman London road in the opposite direction.. there's also other tumuli on the downs towards the Ridgeway
name definition; Oceburnan 10th C, Ocheburne 1086, can't remember if the saxon insertion burial was late though.
saxons probably built the first church and were't too worried about old barrows..
