Not many books have grid lines or contours in them because as soon as you do that the Ordnance Survey demand a *very* large chunk of the cover cost. I know of one person who was asked for 10% just for grid lines on one map. He told them to stuff it and didn't use them ...

The Ordnance Survey is one of the few businesses able to charge twice. (They'd possibly say they were just recovering the surveying costs).

I was about to say that the OS don't own the gridlines but I suppose they do actually (well the ones we use for TMA, most GB map refs and GPS settings.) They won't own the rights to Lat and Long though, when TMA goes European will there be a dual system using the local mapping datums (is that the right word?) and universal Lat/Long?
