I would be reticent to say that this was a ghost or any sort of discarnate entity; though I have no doubt that your perception of the events is real. I would say you just don't know what you saw, albeit an emotionally and intellectually unfulfilling position. Sometimes I think to admit "I just don't know" is the most honest and best position to take.

I have visited there many times, never after dark, though once at sunset, and have never felt anything other than awe and wonder at the landscape and many features in that area.

There are weird things that happen, though. Yes indeed.
