it looks like a similar situation to Crofthead Farm near Fowlis Wester http://www.themodernantiquarian.com/post/24943 where there is a massive glacial erratic (now split in two) associated with nearby standing stones. In this case the boulder has cupmarks on it so the significance to the ancients is clearly visible

also, Summerhouse Hill, which is really perplexing because the boulders do seem to be in a circle but there is just something which screams "glacial". When I first visited, I thought they were the remains of a circle but over the past couple of years and numerous visits, I have revised my theory. However, someone obvioulsy thought the stones were important and symbolic enough to build a cairn, slap bang in the middle of them!

Yeah, I always think of the Carlin Stone too http://www.themodernantiquarian.com/site/3811 near Backhill of Draclaw in Aberdeenshire http://www.themodernantiquarian.com/site/3815

Would like to get back there as the twice I've been it's been too dark for photos...! (But I doubt if I'll get the chance when we'e up in July - it'll be mainly the more impressive sites we'll be concentrating on, as J's not been before. I'll be in touch about the Perthshire leg at some stage!)
