The chisels that have left marks in stones I've found must really have been made for wood. If the tools could mark sandstone then they would rip through Scotch pine eg. I like the thing about Oetzi the snowman - he had fifteen different kinds of wood about him. Nowadays it's difficult to get an ash handle for a hatchet even - all they have in store is hickory - which I break rapidly.
