I would find it tragic if it was closed as it has been a place of very powerful spiritual practise for me. To chant in there is a wonderful thing...
The trouble is you can see why people leave candles in there. Its the ignorance of those people that has to be addressed, as I really don't think they are trying to cause damage.

I know beter now.
Leave a sign outside and an alter-like bench/platform in the end chamber. That, I think, would improve things.
I would hate to think they will go straight to closure.
