Given that the structure is visible from so many viewpoints, how easy (or difficult) would it have been to work out the right spot to build it (assuming its position was worked out and the ‘multiple viewpoint effect’ didn’t just happen by accident). It can be seen from as far away (the furthest point?) as Winterbourne Bassett, from within the Avebury circle and from so many other vantage points both near and far. That really is an extraordinary achievement when you think about it.

Remember it's position is low, one of the lowest on the downs, it's not built on a hill, so this makes what you say even more extraordinary.

Not quite sure what you are suggesting LS . In relation to the sun roll ,if it had been worked out before the build of the mound , it would have been much more difficult than finding a spot after the build . There is one good spot others get close but the sun appears or disappears to early or late or sinks into the hill .
The obviously all important siting is odd in that it could have been in a more conspicuous position if multiple viewpoints were the intention ,Waden Hill blocks a fair percentage of the view from the north east to east or alternatively the view towards that area is blocked .
