Avebury Parish Council have received notification from the Countryside Agency that Silbury Hill is being classified as 'open country' (this is one of only two locations designated such within Avebury, but there are other sites designated such within the WHS). The notification being accompanied by 'Draft map of Regional Area Map 3, Central Southern England, Avebury'. The site reference for Silbury is 149.

The Countryside Agency are making a presentation of this local plan next Thursday (19th Sept) at 1.15 and 6.15 at Marlborough Leisure Centre with a display open from 12.30 - 7.00.

The Project Director is Kirsty Shaw, and the telephone number for the Countryside Agency is 0845 - 1003298.

They are I am told willing to listen to views !

Barry is right - the 'right to roam' is a real bonus to us stones hunters BUT the proposals outlined (and can be seen online at http://www.ca-mapping.co.uk/mapping/mal.jsp?tool=south - mind the wrapping) ARE draft and can be changed - especially on heritage and safety grounds. Indeed I would expect EH would be a statutory consultee on the maps and would certainly object to the Silbury island of yellow.

We had farmers up this way complaining that the 'right to roam' would lead to increased drug taking on their land - I couldn't quite follow this argument and it failed anyway!

Let us know how the meeting goes Pete as I feel an objection letter comin' on.

WHEN ME and my *x* and Our LITTLE LAD WERE GOING THROUGH THe motions of splitting up (well I was being dumped!) we had both been going through a ruff time ....... and out of these months of misery the only time we laughed and had any peace in our hearts AS A FAMILY UNIT was when laying out flat on top of silbUry on a sunny morning .

It was a strange day and that HiLL DID STRANGE THINGS TO MY innerself ..... A day that will stay with me for ever . A Luvly memory !
I might be brave enough to visit it agiN IF i CAN ESCAPE THEE GHOSTS OF THE PAST.
I'm gonna stop now before I burst into soNg!
