Barry is right - the 'right to roam' is a real bonus to us stones hunters BUT the proposals outlined (and can be seen online at http://www.ca-mapping.co.uk/mapping/mal.jsp?tool=south - mind the wrapping) ARE draft and can be changed - especially on heritage and safety grounds. Indeed I would expect EH would be a statutory consultee on the maps and would certainly object to the Silbury island of yellow.

We had farmers up this way complaining that the 'right to roam' would lead to increased drug taking on their land - I couldn't quite follow this argument and it failed anyway!

Let us know how the meeting goes Pete as I feel an objection letter comin' on.

Thanks for the link to the map, Grendel.
Unfortunately, it times out, so you have
to go to:

http://www.ca-mapping.co.uk/maile_r3/Default.htm

and type in the place name.

I had a look, expecting to see large areas
of downland designated. All I saw around
Avebury was Silbury Hill(!) and parts of
Fyfield, Knoll and Cow Downs coming under
the scheme.

Does the farmer that objected have mushrooms growing on his land?
