Well watching it in 'theatre' mode on my computer this morning (god you can't beat technology sometime) there was a sense of sadness and lump in the throat about it all. The two miners handfilling a void at one point, marvelling at the people who had constructed it; Atkinson when questioned about his 'methods' said "this sort of criticism is very silly" ye gods..... and the final shot from WKLB looking towards Silbury, think the cameraman had managed to capture the spiritual essence of megaliths and Silbury - in all a very revealing insight into the interior of Silbury.

I agree that the way it was edited to show Atkinson saying the severe criticism of him for tunnelling sideways instead of downwards was "very silly" was very powerful and what telly does best. (So much so that I felt rather sorry for him, an entire lifetime reduced to a soundbite indicating he was a fool.)

On the other hand the programme did some things very badly. Fancy the beeb broadcasting an interview on top of Silbury, what an opportunity to inform people? and it's first two questions were "were there any human sacrifices here? and"Do you get a lot of "crusties" or naked people up here"!

The next ought to have been - Do you think this would be a good venue for a Big Brother episode?
