" Would the total cost of the endless TALK have been sufficient to actually DO SOMETHING?"

I am very surprised Peter, that you would come out with such a suggestion.

There has been very little talk outrside closed doors, quite a lot of propaganda, and while it wasn't cheap it pales into insignificance when you consider the retunnel has a £600,000 consulation fee attached, that is without digging a spoonfull. I do not know what SKANSKA's fee was for the investigation, but it muct have been huge as EH are refusing to release it. More importantly, without talk Silbury cannot be put right, and it must be put right whatever the cost in terms of cash.

Exactly! The consultations and investigations are costing hundreds of thousands but nothing is being done to halt the ongoing damage. You can so easily talk things to death and never get agreement. The only people to benefit are the bureaucrats, consultants and investigators who become ever richer fat cats. Meanwhile drip by drip and slump by slide the chalk settles and the bulge bulges until - whoops!.
