yeah but no!
If EH did an about turn and bowed down to Swiftys demands of grouting only then in the future some young archaeologist would decide to go back in and remove the rubbish Atkinson left in the 60's.
IMHO it is best to take out Everything not original before backfilling propery and forever.
At the recent Knoll Down dig I had the chamce to talk to a bunch of professinal archaeologists and they all agreed that the EH plan is the best option.
BTW does Frank know of anywhere in Avebury that is large enough to hold all the interested parties that
HA want EH to explain their plans to?

I strongly support the EH plan and cannot see what all the fuss is about. I also cannot see how this vote is going to make any difference anyway. We are bombarded with endless meaningless votes for just about everything and this is no exception. If it makes you feel that you have struck a blow for Silbury - fine.

The archaeos digging at Knoll have not read the reports and were not at the presentation meeting so they are just about as knowledgeable about this as the public. The other one I grant knows his Silbury, but so do I and I disagree with him. What HA are calling for is the right of a public to learn what is going on and either agree or disagree. He agrees with that I am sure.

My understanding of the meeting at Avebury is that it would (should have been) an exhibition during the school holidays at the Barn. A list would be up and on the website for those wanting to attend a meeting, a venue would then be booked.

The largest argument supporting the rebore aside from repair is public education, it should start with informing the public of what is going on.

But the point of the HA email is to get them to explain why they've chosen tunnelling when what they HAVE published suggests that tunnelling is more damaging, more risky and more expensive.

If they've got proper reasons to do with the safety of the hill rather than just choosing the option that allows more research, HA will be DELIGHTED!!!!!!

And even if the reasons AREN'T to do with the safety of the hill and ARE for the option that allows more research, at least they will have disclosed that to the public - the owners of the Hill - so the public (& HA) can complain if they want to.
