The main thing here is that you could end up with Wiltshire's answer to Newgrange and Knowth. Newgrange is now a monument to one man's interpretation of how the site might have looked at one instant in it's very, very long history. Knowth is a bastardisation of how it looked during many phases of its use.

Prof Bradley has argued that EH has a "moral duty" to rebore Atkinson's BBC tele-tunnel on the grounds that his records were pants so EH is obligated to make good the failure to get all the knowledge.

That pre-supposes Atkinson and the Beeb had any business in there.
In fact, the big thing was the hope that they'd find King Sil's golden treasure on live TV. So the whole thing was for a nonsense reason anyway.

Re "one man's interpretation"

As you know FW, if you visit Stonehenge there is only version of history on display - and also in the shop where I note they are still not selling Andy Worthington's book. At Avebury too there is a single story on display and if not for whatever is on the walls of the pub and on sale in the Henge Shop, there would be no other story.

It is not very democratic is it ?
