what I want to know is why I heard about their decision to do something through (pardon me) a provincial rag like the Western Daily Press. I can't see anything on the EH website, I don't remember anyone on this forum mentioning it.. Am I just being stupid and it's been plastered everywhere for ages? If they've been evasive up to this point why slap it in the WDP? Can someone enlighten me? and now they've got their three options, when are they going to get ON with something?

Stonehenge - makes shedloads of cash. Money showered on it at the drop of a hat.
Silbury - pile of earth at the side of a road. Doesn't even have a gift shop. Drop it down the priority list.

You're right Rhiannon.
EH said at the forum in Sept they'd be publishing details on the website. They haven't. Big surprise not.

Instead they did so in British Archaeology mag edited by Mike Pitts and he's now summarised it in WDP.

You might ask why the details were first published as an exclusive in a limited edition magazine just before the Xmas holiday (and 2 days before the end of the three month "consultation period for people to submit opinions" which ended on Xmas day. (Did YOU catch the post in time??)

You might speculate that it was because this was the very first time they came clean about the fact that the hill has staggeringly severe structural problems and huge looses are now inevitable whichever repair option is chosen. (You know, the ones some uninformed rabble rousing Heritage scallywags have been saying existed and they've been utterly denying).

It's a complete and utter scandal and they should hang their heads in shame, not keep spinning. What a way to earn a salary.

Sorry to correct you, Silbury had a gift shop and cafe and petrol station, and a nice 2 bed bungalow with lovely views and traffic noise...
Richard Atkinson stayed in it in 1970 when he was digging in the top....

and EH/MoW knocked it all down "and put up a parking lot" !
