I'd never heard of that one, Pete G. Its surely got solar connotations, though, what with the golden horse. I'll add it to my blog in the next day or two (once I've trawled the net for some more details...).

don't see why it has to have a solar connection.
Its not a great place to see the sun rise or set.
It could be lunar or neither (I suspect the later)
There are loads of places with a similar legend.
Longman of Wilmington is supposed to have a golden knight on a golden horse beneath it.
I reckon its just folk memories of people digging up bronze aged grave good.
