I'm interested in the fallen Bophrennis Quoit. It's recorded as being just half a mile from the beehive hut and "one fourth of a mile to the northwest of Bophrennis is a dismounted capstone". It's round and five inches thick - if it's still there - and four feet ten inches (or six hand spans) across.

It was considered to be modern, as it's round, but I've a very similar rock, just two hand spans across, several hundred miles to the north, at Kirkhaugh. I'm intrigued to know whether the cap has similar chisel signatures to the Kirkhaugh thing. They would tie the copper-producing area of the North Pennines with tin production in Cornwall quite conclusively. It'll possibly be in someone's garden !

They're connected with rolling rituals - I'm sure !

The round stone at Bosporthennis gets a mention in Naenae Cornubia (1872) by William Copeland Borlase.
page 67.

Some old chap remembered a miller caled Jan from Polmear who came up to work the stone into a round shape.

The story rambles on a bit but I will post it if I find time. Borlase concludes that the stone must have been roughly circlular and did find splintered pieces lying around.

The is a similar stone at Stowes Pound in Cornwall - carved from a natural stone also abandoned .

I'm hoping to get up to this site in the next few days, so hopefully there'll be a picture or two posted soon!
