He has caught the exact symbolic image of this area, Cherhill Down has a strange uncanny lunar like landscape full of past ghosts. Living about 30 kilometres from Cherhill, I can still see
it from the hills that surround Bath, saw it yesterday, with Little Solsbury hill fort in the foreground, and even from a distance it has that strange magnetic power....The Morgan hill photo (Oldbury Hillfort) taken on the other side captures the same emptyiness..

Glad that you like it. I envy you living so close to Cherhill Down. If I did, I'd be up there every day and most nights. Oldbury Castle is one of the smaller Ridgeway hillforts, but its location is breathtaking. The views in ALL directions are staggering - very Tolkienesque with the Shire leading out on to the Barrow Downs! The light is uncanny too, especially in autumn when the evening comes early and the low sunlight skims across the pleats and folds. Lucky You!
