Yep.
I agree.
The Red Lion has been crap for years. Ever since Ex-Heads Tim and Leslie left.

The Waggon and Horses is my local and the food is fantastic, fresh and home cooked. None of that ready made portions from Brake Brothers rubbish either. It's cooked to order for you and if you have to wait 20mins for your food you know why.

:o)

Hey gorgeous, thanks for the heads up. Les and i felt we had to leave wich was a shame as we had worked hard for 2 plus years making the pub more pagan friendly, and more customer friendly orientated, nothing being too much trouble. After all the pub game is all about repeat busines.
I remember how i felt during my first visit to Avebury and then the Lion.
It was very special for me , almost shamanic, hence us moving to the area. band at www.myspace.com/jonestown0
Anyway , if i were you i would definatly go the waggon., and its a nice stroll from the stones, better food, better drink, landlords a bit of a stickler about racous behaviour. But if its raucous bahaviour you want, come round to our place.
ALSO on a different note , check out my band at www.myspace.com/jonestown0.
the vocals are crap , but it will give u an i, plus we are back into the studio in 2 weeks to put stuff rite.
love on u all. Tim Toxic Delerium

thanks for the heads up.Les and i loved our time at the lion , only because we felt so close to the clientele . you were friends not customers.
now its run by greedheads.
visiting Avebury for the first time should be a shamanic life changing experience.
Stay away from the lion, go the waggon.
and if you got bluetooth log onto www,myspace.com/jonestown0
and listen to the worlds first indie/psychedelic/new wave band.
plus we are back in a real studio so the sound quality should be excellant.
love to you all. Tim

Yeah - it never occurred to me the food went downhill after Tim and Lesley left! I have fond memories of the food and assumed the couple of times I ate there after they'd left were just flukes.

Ah well... Wagon & Horses it is then! :) Unless I'm just stopping off for a cuppa.

Purely out of interest , why did they leave ?
I can't think of anything better than running a boozer in one of the
most beautiful and interesting parts of the country with a regular
flow of interesting characters.

That said , I probably know the answer...a mate of mine ran a pub for
a while and realized pretty quickly that it was a 24/7 nightmare and
any profit he made was soon snaffled by the ever increasing rent and
beer prices imposed on him by the brewery concerned.

Shame though..
