Heh! Now I know what you're on about, but you just conjured up some highly amusing mental images of Keystone Cops and Druids doing a Benny Hill fast-forward routine around the trilithons.

For me, first visit to Avebury was ruined by a combo of wasps and tourists, but that gave rise to determination to get the place to myself, which resulted in spending a whole week there in the Teacher's Cottage a few years ago. So I'm not complaining.

If forced to choose between Avebury and Kilmartin, I'd probably eventually go for the latter. Avebury, for all it's astoundingness, has little in the way of carvings. But there is something about Fyfield that is a large part of Avebury's attraction for me. Not just the cup-marks and pollisoir, but the broodingly sessile wildness of those feral sarsens.

You're not far from the truth there Hob! With the helicopters it was a bit more Benny Hill meets Escape From Colditz, but you're on the right lines.

You should have said you've were gonna be in the Peak District man - I'd have come n' said hello!
