Wasn't Avebury being run by the villagers when all the stones were pulled down and made into houses? :D

Also... how much of this is the fault of the NT, and how much of it is simply the nation-wide trends that are leading to the decline of small villages as working communities?

I'm sure you're right to point out its a national trend. On the other hand, hanging over this particular village is the fact NT owns most of it combined with their published medium term aim to ban all vehicles from there.... At least, that's what I understood. Has anyone any details?
