Avebury and the nearby Kennet (a word also of great antiquity and interest), the Swallowhead, Silbury and the Winterbourne all have one thing in common - water. But not just water, water that was born anew at certain times of the year.

To which you could add, if so inclined, Silbaby and Marlborough Mound.

Well, I certainly don't mind adding the Great Bank and the Marlborough Mound (along with several other indications of a Water-based Cult in the area :-)

Well here's a photo of Silbaby with the Kennet at its foot.. even if some don't believe it is old ;)

As a water worshipper, reckon its a peaceful bit of the Kennet not much visited by people, the Kennet has a tranquil transparent quality in which to view the 'otherworld'. Also what about the palisaded enclosures did'nt the river meander through them as well....
Its clear translucency is the magical bit of course and that soft rippling noise it makes....
