Yeah, agree with all of that suave, especially the road back to the New Inn (where I once nearly killed a cyclist with no friggin' lights on his bike!).

I take the point about a new entrance at the Lion but why not have locks on the inner doors leading into the upper and lower bars? Going through the small porch (at the front of the pub) the door on the right could be locked after hours but guests could still access their rooms by the door on the left. I don't think there is a door leading from the little snug into the upper bar and restaurant but surely one could be fitted and locked at night.

Maybe scousemaiden could fill us in on the problem. The Red Lion is a great pub though and I've spent many happy hours there and met some great people :-)

I take a little torch, and just click it on as a car approaches. It's amazing how much safer you feel. The car can see you from half a mile away, and slows down in plenty of time.

We stayed in the Lodge for the first time last year, it's a class 'A' B&B. For the extra few quid it's well worth it. The front room overlooks the stones, and has a beautiful comfy bed. We'll stop there again. Wonderful!
But I do like me sausage and bacon if I'm doing a B&B though. . the Lodge serves a (very nice) veggy brecky.
