The Roman road makes a sharp turn before Silbury hill.
If it went beneath then Silbury could not be neolithic.

Stop trolling :-) You know fulll well that in most cases saying something runs 'beneath a hill' means 'at the base of a hill' rather than underneath it (in a poetic sense). Roads are often said to run through a valley below SuchandSuch Hill. Taken literally 'below' would mean unsderneath too.
