Leaving aside the question of money for once, there is the major problem of sending out the wrong signals. ie telling yobs that riding bikes over an ancient site is ok! 'No cycling' signs won't necessarily deter them when they've seen it done.

In the past I've seen a bloke who should better let his mates ride a motorcycle into the stones area for a photo shoot.
Riotgibbon had his daughter run over by a mountain biker while walking down green st towards Avebury a few years ago.
I have no doubt this sort of nonesense will continue into the future...
