A new management strategy setting out plans for the Avebury World Heritage site (WHS) has been launched.

It aims to protect the Wiltshire site for future generations and balance the needs of the local community and the 350,000 visitors who visit every year.

The plan also deals with issues such as traffic, nature conservation and archaeological research.

An English Heritage spokesman said the plan shows how the site's monuments and landscape will be preserved.

Fences, turnstiles and extortionate entrance fees! Ticket holders only for the Solstice. No drinking, smoking, laughing, unattended children, dogs or anything else that might put a smile on your face. English fucking heritage!!

I downloaded Part Three, the Objectives and Strategies, and it looks on the face of it quite sensitive and concerned. Promote more benign agricultural practices; improve plantings to control erosion; improve signage; disperse parking; improve pedestrian ways in the village; work with voluntary agreements to improve sightlines; all good stuff.

Did any of you actually read the thing?

Out of interest did any of you read the Avebury management plan that this one has replaced ?
