On the beach in Cornwall I've seen "sea frits" (is that the term?) in which the mist is phospherescent and millions of sparkly bits show, despite it being completely dark.

That's what I meant! That pic you linked to Hob - that's pretty much what my St Nectans Kieve pic looked like! Except more orbs, less subject matter...
