Stones with names?

Oh and up on Fyfield is Long Tom which is a thin tall stone stone.
The Devils Den got his name from Delling dean the valley it is situated in.
I found only yesterday that the single stone on the Beckhampton road near the old Roman road marks the site of the beckhampton gibbot (which I will re start if I ever find the Bastard who hacked chunks off the broken heart stone.)

I really wanted to go to Long Tom when I was at Avebury at the beginning of this year but didn't have the time - too busy with West Kennet etc. : ( There's a place near Callanish called Tom that I also wanted to go to but was too busy with Callanish, Cnoc Fillibhear Bheagg etc. : ( There's a place near Glasgow called Tom's Seat, though, and I have sat there! : )

Tom in Gaelic means "bed". If you look it up in the English dictionary then its got quite a long definition but the three main strands of meaning are "short, stupid & male". What do you reckon, FourWinds?

Never one to miss out on the chance of fame and immortality, may I suggest we have a competition here to find names for some of the Avebury Stones?
If we agreed on some, and kept to them, I bet they'd stick.
The one Mike Pitts is going to pull up will be in the news a lot so that's a perfect candidate.
We had a conversation about this issue here...
