Ogma is supposed to have given man the skill of writing. Poetry comes from somewhere else (calls Tombo!)
Lethbridge had a thing about his pendulum, but the Gogmagog stuff was inspired detective work (or an amazing imagination). The Gogmagog hill figure was found by the same method employed at the Ceide Fields in Co. Mayo. First steps were 'sounding' the ground with a bar and detecting differences in depth of resistance ... an early manual geophys if you like.
By pushing a bar into the ground and measuring the depth at which it stopped he was able to determine where the bedrock had been cut into before excavating.
As I've often said, I have no problem with dowsing as long as the dowsers acknowledge what it is they are measuring and don't shroud it in Hocus-Pocus.
