I was very interested to see you post about Alphamstone, which looks very weird. So many questions!
I may be going to stay in Dedham (where John Constable painted) over the bank holiday weekend so will try to check that one out for myself. I thought that Essex was pretty much a megaraks desert so I'm quitely thrilled to find that this little mystery exists for me to discover more about.

There's certainly not a lot around that area of Essex. A couple of (minor) hillforts and that's about it, that I can see. Lots of R*man stuff, Colchester being so close and all.. The Newport Leper is sizable, though, and quite surprising. You may arrange to pass it on your way cross country.

Not sure what's slightly further north, in Suffolk, if anything. I don't have the Landranger maps of that area yet :-)

Picturesque countryside though...
