Thanks for the welcomes ! … and the comments about the book !

follow that cow - re Saturday night / Sunday morning – the moon will be quite a bit higher at due south, but still worth a look if it's a clear night. I dare say John and I will 'drop in' on the way from the ferry to our accommodations in Carloway.

Melys - re July – the dates I gave were dates for the moon at its furthest south – which is not the same thing as when it is full. But I reckoned that June and July were the best times to go, because this is when it is both close to furthest south and close (but not at) full.

I look forward to meeting some of you there. By the way, one of the Stones List members, who lives on Lewis mentioned that the dreaded midges had woken up for the summer so don't go without good insect repllant!

I have some information about midges and various midge repellents on my website here http://www.stravaiging.com/activities/wildlife/midges.php

For those not in the know, if you can't get hold of any specialist midge repellent then any of the Avon "Skin So Soft" range works amazingly well - it's even issued to the Army!

Cheers
Andy

Take marmite with you, it is a good midge repellent. Don't smear it all over, just have some on your toast. It comes out in your persperation and the midgies don't like it.
