I've decided to head for Cavan today and finally see the Shantemon stone row. After looking at the OS map I see I've had it marked for ages with a big note by it saying 'hard to find in the trees', so I haven't bothered with it. Now the trees are mainly gone I can go and have a look. Loads of stuff around there I haven't seen yet as well, including lots of sweathouses ... if I can find the little so-and-sos!

Steep? It's feckin' vertical! I thought my lungs were going to implode! Gotta give up smokin' ...

For those that may wish to go to see these lovely stones there is another route. If you follow CM's direction, but continue past the finger post saying "Finn McCool's Fingers" for about 500m there is a more gentle route signposted "The Finger Stones"

There's also a vandalised info sign. Apparently up on the hilltop above the stone row there's a vitrified fort - one of the very few in Ireland.
