All we can say is that at RSC's the orientation of the recumbent when measured from the centre of the circle points in the 35 of 70 ish circles which are considered surveyable , points to a section of the horizon between azimuths 156-230 . In the case of Midmar if you stand at the centre of the circle looking over the recumbent the Hill of Fare gets in the way of the major moon but not the minor moon set . We don't really know if that is what it was "for " or even if the centre to recumbent is important but can only note this common feature , the rest is interpretation .

There is altogether too much we don't know about these beautiful circles :-(

There's no doubt that Midmar's recumbent (as with so many others) is very carefully chocked to it's present level so the builders were aiming for something very specific.

Hmm, if you were standing by the Northern outlier stone, would you be able to see over the hill to the major standstill then I wonder? (with trees removed of course).

Did you see the 200 year old graffiti on the top of the recumbent while you were there?
