All we can say is that at RSC's the orientation of the recumbent when measured from the centre of the circle points in the 35 of 70 ish circles which are considered surveyable , points to a section of the horizon between azimuths 156-230 . In the case of Midmar if you stand at the centre of the circle looking over the recumbent the Hill of Fare gets in the way of the major moon but not the minor moon set . We don't really know if that is what it was "for " or even if the centre to recumbent is important but can only note this common feature , the rest is interpretation . Thanks - I understand about the standstills - just wondering how that works at Midmar. Also, I understood that the surface of the recumbant was used as the reference for the moon set seen against the horizon - that couldn't work at Midmar
