I am planning a trip to Dartmoor early next week (weather permiting) and wanted to visit Scorhill.
Having just looked at the OS map I was a little unsure of the best route in a medium sized car once you get past Chagford (having also read KPH's field notes) and hoped you peeps can recommend the best way.
Also where is the best place to park without upsetting the locals?

Cheers in advance

Closest place to park is just to the ENE at the more southerly road from Berrydown. There's a little carpark just where the road stops being yellow on the Landranger & turns left.

Or the walk from Shovel Down stone rows is nice, in which case I'd park where the others are all saying. I've done both, depending on the weather/time available....

Hey Scubes, how's it going?

My preferred route is to take the road past Round Pound to Batworthy Farm. You can park at the end of the road opposite the little bridge. Following the farm wall just west of south you get to Batworthy corner, then turn northwest across Shovel Down. Across the pretty clapper bridge at the bottom and then on up to Scorhill. It's about a mile to the circle from where you've parked, a longer walk than from the Scorhill Farm side but well worth it. There's an extraordinary amount of worked stone scattered across Shovel Down and some stone rows. It's also been inhabited since the mesolithic, so nicely evocative with your pork pie and packet of crisps.
