Access tips?

close

Inspired by HA's wallpaper calendar for this month, I'm looking to stop off (weather permitting) at Scorhill on the way to Cornwall tomorrow.

I wondered if anyone had any access/direction tips for a wuss. Jane's entry notes that it's an easy walk, but not where from! I see there's a car park on the map not too far away. Is it easy to find?

Any and all tips appreciated...

A.

The little carparky thing that's closest is at about SX662878, tho it doesn't appear on the Explorer.

The roads to get to it are pretty narrow & twisty & turny just about all the way from the main road - so it takes a while. The walk from there is easy & about 10(-15) mins, gently uphill then gently downhill. fine for you but prob a bit far for Mikki, I'd guess - 'cept mebbe if you REALLY took yer time.

I parked here http://www.streetmap.co.uk/newmap.srf?x=266215&y=86555&z=4&sv=266500,86500&st=4&ar=Y&mapp=newmap.srf&searchp=newsearch.srf (where the yellow road meets the white track)

From here you can easily easily walk to Shovel Down and then across the streams to Scorhill. There are lovely clapper bridges over the water.

Take the route shown to you on the map from Fourwinds. It is by far the easiest and the bog is nowehere near to the track that runs to the circle from Batworthy corner. I have been up there twice in the last three weeks and had no trouble. There are three nice clapper bridges to cross the rivers and the Tolmen stone is also worth a look at if not a climbe through. It is on the opposite side of the Teign from the wall that runs from Batworthy corner so is easy to find.
Have a good trip it is a great place.

Peace Lubin.

If it's an easy walk you want, the most direct route from the closest place you can park your car at, then Moth is right. Park at SX662878 which is at the end of some nice windy little lanes and just walk straight up, then straight down. It wasn't too taxing even for me.

If you park at Batworthy you'll see Shoveldown/clapperbridges and stuff but you WILL have a longer walk.

Up to you. Enjoy!

Tomorrow will be quite a good day weather wise , according to the local forcast a short while ago.
