I know I've read about how the idea of a triple goddess (maiden, mother and crone) is totally made up and is of this century - kind of retrospectively invented, like the Druidry stuff of the previous century, filling a perceived gap. Does Hutton talk about it in his book? There's a lead 'carving' of three women in the Bath museum, so the idea of a triple goddess might have something in it - but these three look exactly the same, there's no evidence of one looking older or younger than the rest.

Still, you can believe whatever takes your fancy really! as long as you're doing it because it fits your outlook on life. and you're not pinning any hopes that it unquestionably connects with the pagan past. Even though, it might concur with what people actually did believe...

I love that last paragraph!

I think the Celtic triple goddess did exist. It/She/They certainly appear in some very old manuscripts.

You have many place names in Ireland that refer to Ainne (maiden aspect), Grainne (mother apsect), and the Callaigh Berra (Hag aspect). You have places like the Paps of Anu (my what a pair of hills those are!).

I just don't see any evidence of a global 'One Mother Goddess'. Many female goddesses yes, all with similar motherly traits yes, but the same being/entity no.

I'm just a killjoy :-)

My belief is a potpourii of what resonates in my heart any time I try to pin my star on a belief I trap myself in dogma my spiritual perspective is ever evolving :-)
Thank You
