A stile'd be a good idea - but that'd encourage others to dare walk on this land. Not what the chap wants by the sound of it. Personally, I wouldn't give a toss whether he told me to "Keep Out" or not - I'd still look at it if I wanted to.

But this seems odd: how come we've had 3 complaints from land-owners to TMA about 3 sites in the last few weeks. Is some tosser from some other website, or some miserable researcher, trying to discredit things here, or am I just being paranoid...? Or are are they truly miserable "incomers" who've moved up here with the wrong attitude. Makes y' wonder.

The number of complaints does seem odd. I can understand farmers being pissed off when people collapse their walls, though. It takes time to rebuild them and if you have to do it repeatedly I can see how it'd piss you off.

There's also the litigation side of things. I would say that all of us are aware that if we do jump a fence/gate then we do so at our own risk, but there's some out there that would sue the landowner if they had an accident whilst doing so. It's happened in Ireland several times. Stupid, but a sign of the times :-(

I have a suspicion that some landowners are lurkers on websites such as this just in case their archaeology comes up, or perhaps some group lurks to pass on the info as you suggest. Might be better if they were upfront about what they had, and where, with a note to say that they fell outwith CRoW and whether folk could get permission from them or no.
