Hi guys, HEELLPPP!

This one's rapidly turning into my 'bete noir' I've tried to find it 3 times now & failed.

The first two attempts were pretty quick and without the benefit of your fieldnotes but yesterday we took a bit longer over it & still failed!

Assuming I'm in the right field as shown on the OS map, where I get confused is that as you reach the crest there's a tumbled wall? Do you have to go over that or not? I now notice Linz23 mentions a wall.

ANY help would be much appreciated, but to make sure I'm in the right place, can someone give me a map ref for where to enter the field from the B6265?

It's been a long time since I've failed to find something so I'm getting really frustrated now & plan to get up there again this weekend.

I'm tempted to say I'm not leaving without seeing it this time!!! Better take the tent....

Moth - it is a difficult one to find, if I remember rightly (it's over a year since I visited)...

Approaching from the East, the road bends to the right as it starts to descend the hill. To the right there is a track leading down to Grimwith Res. (Grimwith Road). Park up here (don't go down the road to the res.) I'm not sure if parking is really permitted, but I did anyway - I think there's just about enough room to pull in without obstructing the complicated series of gates. Don't go down the track, instead vault the gate into the field to the right of the Grimwith Road. Head up the field following the wall between the field and the main road. Once you come to another field wall, start to follow this up the hill and the circle will come into view on a flat section.

This is all off the top of my head, based on what I can remember. Fitz might be able to offer up more clues.

I did have a bit of trouble finding it to be honest, and had been trudging around the field below for a while before deciding to head up the hill... so, as a wise Welsh farmer once said to me as I was trying to find Din Dryfol, just follow your nose! :-)

Howdo Moth,
I'm working from memory here but if I remember rightly I parked up on the verge of the B6265 just by the quarry and went through the gate and walked up the rise through the field. I'm sorry I can't remember any more than that.
I'm taking my lad to Brimham Rocks tomorrow and then down Stump Cross caverns. If we have time I'll nick along there and see if I can pass any more information.
cheers

I'll answer your questions in the order you ask:

No problems, just relax and I'm sure you'll find it - we did!

Don't be so thorough - I'm sure you'll find it just where you least expected it!

From what you say, I'm not sure you're in the right field, what's the revision date on your map? You definitely don't have to cross any walls.

I didn't come in from the B6265, where are you coming from?

Shame you're having problems - you'd been doing so well too!

I'd definitely take the tent - camping can be so relaxinggggggggggggggg at this time of year.

Got there today!

Piece of piss with the 1:25,000 and your help!!!

'Blog to follow in the week hopefully....
