For a second I mis-read that and thought your mate had been parascending over Machrie Moor. Now that would be a heck of a thing to do. More stones than you could shake a stick at.
On the way back to the road when we were there this summer, we passed a lass who'd passed the first cicle, and she asked if there were any more circles up the path "About 6..." My wife said, "Though I was starting to lose track of them." High density megalithic landscape indeed.
I don't think it's the same kind of stone as round my way though, the Arran stuff is redder for a start, the Nbland stuff is buff when freshly split, but weathers to a light gray, amost white in places.
Like you say, same kind of nice grooves though.
