Machrie Moor

close

Hob,
My parascending mate went to Arran for a week at Whit, and during his wanderings over Goat Fell descended onto Machrie Moor. He hadn't been into much antiquarian stuff before, but he was astounded by the pink stone of the three standing stones. The site had a profound effect on him, almost a conversion. Now he has an interest in the prehistoric.
By the way, the erosion on the Machrie Moor stone looks like that of your last Northumbrian post. Is the rock the same?
Cheers,
TE.

For a second I mis-read that and thought your mate had been parascending over Machrie Moor. Now that would be a heck of a thing to do. More stones than you could shake a stick at.

On the way back to the road when we were there this summer, we passed a lass who'd passed the first cicle, and she asked if there were any more circles up the path "About 6..." My wife said, "Though I was starting to lose track of them." High density megalithic landscape indeed.

I don't think it's the same kind of stone as round my way though, the Arran stuff is redder for a start, the Nbland stuff is buff when freshly split, but weathers to a light gray, amost white in places.

Like you say, same kind of nice grooves though.
