After listening to all of the calls, again, the common buzzard is the only one which comes anywhere near to the call that I heard.

It was saying hello. Sharp squeaky slowing down gate hinge. I called it keening once but I think the proper name's mewling. Shot on sight where I am, if I'm not there. They may remember us by our hair - but that's just a guess.
