The proper name for this howe is Botton - it only became Burton in the mid-c.20th., courtesy of a mis-spelling in Bartholomews maps! It is the highest point of the North York Moors.

Names don't just get misspelt or mispronouced they also evolve over time, just look at Roseberry or the nearby Turkey Nab.
If I used the local or traditional name for sites it could all start to become a little confusing, e.g. imagine some poor bugger trying to search for Steers, Magra, Yatton or Chup Yat.
