Pikestones Attack

I checked out Pikestones again late afternoon Sunday, the person who has attacked the stones on at least 2 occasions in the past 2 weeks has returned and continued to pummel the spiral, causing much fresh damage. The pounding is not being done with a hammer as I first suspected but with a large stone which the attacker is putting back in its original hole after use. It looks like this idiot won’t stop until he has obliterated the (modern) spiral causing massive damage to the stone. I propose reporting this to both English Heritage & the Ranger Service tomorrow, has anyone any other ideas on the best course of action to take?

Damaging a Scheduled Ancient Monument is against the law so possibly it might be reasonable to get in touch with the local police, who will have a specialist officer (or branch). 'Art theft constabulary' in Google will dredge something up.

There's a childhood account of decorating the Rivington Head'I'th'Wall on this site somewhere ...
