Well it turns out the stone is still there, was a bit worried as there was a large gouge out of the mound right about where I thought it should have been the last time I was here.

Only the tiniest bit of the top part was visible so I rang an archaeologist to check it was ok to remove the soil covering (it's only been covered again since the late 90's so I kind of knew there wouldn't be a problem).

Wow! This is a stunning little carved stone, would love to see it in full as I could only get so far down with my toothbrush and twig rock art tool kit!

Will post some pics in the next few days, was very difficult to light properly as it's almost spherical and still embedded in the mound. It's back covered up again now.
